Spring is Here

Today I went outside and took along my Garden Journal that my daughter-in-law gave me for Christmas and the camera. I listed all the plants that were coming up and all the bushes that had buds. It was very gratifying. Some of them I could recognize, one I couldn't. I can't even remember what I planted in this location. Does this look familiar to anyone?

I wish I could identify this plant but I can't. At least not yet. Every spring, now that I'm retired and can devote a LOT of time to my garden-yard, I hover over new growth trying to figure out if I'm looking at something I want in my garden or just some weed that took root. The result is that I now love my weeds as much as my planted plants. And that means I let almost everything grow.... which makes my garden, well, eccentric and disorganized (and that's being generous!).

Looks like mint to me, but I hope not, for your sake. It takes over the garden pretty quickly!
At lease you have nice health plants to look at. My tulips have been attacked by the deer already. We are spraying as much fox urine as we can stand. So disappointing to see the beginning flowers of spring get eaten before they even bloom!

I guessed mint before reading Liz's comment, so that's two votes. Better go pinch 'n' sniff!

It has square stems, like mint. It has a strong aroma but dosen't smell like mint.

Ah, yes, what you have there is Bee Balm AKA Monarda didyma. It is a member of the mint family.
