The Leader Dog School

Last Night my Lions Club met at the Leader Dog School in Rochester, Michigan. The school trains leader dogs for the blind. We had a tour of the kennels and had a lot explained to us. The puppies are bred by Leader Dogs but then volunteers take them and socialize them for their first year and then give them back to Leader Dog. It costs about $38,000 to train a leader dog. The largest contributor is the Lions Cub International. When a blind person gets a dog they stay at the school for about 4 weeks to train with their new dog. They also get a GPS unit which is especially made for the blind. It really made me feel good to know I am helping out with a cause like that.
